about

Infestus is Luís Pinto, a passionate music lover turned DJ and producer from Lisbon. His influences include the Portuguese rave scene, hip hop and drum & bass, and other styles which feed from the black traditions of jazz, funk and soul.

His 1st productions were hip hop instrumentals which were mostly turned down by rappers for being too "weird" or "electronic," but he quickly started to explore other modes of expression, becoming a keyboard player for a funk band and exploring further his own electronic productions. He attended the Red Bull Music Academy 2010, in London, and soon after that made his debut with productions in the deep house style.

In the following years of 2011 and 2012 his sound evolved to reflect a growing love for early UK hardcore and breakbeat rave music. This change made it also possible for Infestus to explore Grime - one of his earlier influences - and forge his own spontaneous and vital form of raw and fast party music.

As these beats were passed around and played in smaller parties in Lisbon and Porto, they gained a semi-mythical status for a few DJ's willing to step out of the more traditional house/techno mode into faster Rave mayhem. Sadly the tracks never found a home and by the end of 2012 Luís announced the end of his Infestus project to focus on new ventures.

In 2013 Luís Pinto is back to the studio and will surely be making waves under his new alias DJ Downrock, hosting a new radio show on Sub.FM and continuing to run his label Circus Maximus. We've asked Luís to release these tracks on our label as they've become such a fun part of our dj sets in the last couple of years and felt like they belonged to One Eyed Jacks.

SIMON REYNOLDS
"like a mash-up of Todd Terry and Human Resource with a smidge of 93-Reinforced"

PHILIP SHERBURNE
"From the "Mentasm" stabs of "Dopamine Rush" to the vinyl spinbacks and sinewave alarms of "Dread," there's an unapologetically throwback sensibility here; no classic trope is left unturned. But the sense that these are studies doesn't make them any less thrilling on their own terms. Strafed with sirens, jittery chords, and synth glissandi, "Dopamine Rush" is just that, and "Dread" feels like several chapters' worth of Simon Reynolds' Energy Flash condensed into six jaw-grinding minutes of rolling breaks and diva loops, while"Tundra Riddim" clenches its fist around brittle Eskibeat and "Pulse X"-styled bass brutalism."

AXEL BOMAN
"nonstop partystarting rave-bangers! what is not to like about this release?! its playful takes on classic hardcore stuff! sounds fresh and grimey, dirty yet plush! REEEEWIND!!"

ALIS (Subeena, Don't Be Afraid, Opit)
"omg the 3rd tune!!"

BENEDICT BULL (Phonica, House of Trax)
"really feeling this one! "Dread" especially!"

TONY POLAND (Juno Plus)
"woahhhh"
